Q & A!

Hey guys,

I hope everyone is well, I thought I’d do a quick Q & A post. I’d also like to just point out that on my previous post L’Oréal Pure Clay Masks Review I stated that they weren’t cruelty free as I didn’t check their updated status but I was wrong (I’m sorry!) they are in fact cruelty free now (hooray!) sorry for providing you with incorrect information.

So let’s get started!

What’s your favourite thing to write about?

This is hard because I enjoy writing about everything I’ve previously written about but if I had to pick one subject I would have to say product reviews because I know they can be helpful for others if they’re debating whether to get the product I’ve reviewed.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Job wise I’d either like to be where I am right now or working with animals. So let’s hope I don’t get fired and actually start figuring out what animal courses I want to do! Also for my lifestyle, in 5 years I hope to have moved out with Graham, have my own dog and to have been driving for a while.

Pet peeves about blogging?

I’m not sure if it counts as a pet peeve but it’s irritating trying to get good pictures for my blog as the best lighting is always when I’m at work so I really struggle to get good lighting for my pictures.

Who inspires you to blog?

It’s hard to narrow it down to just one person as I feel like everyone I’ve spoken to since starting my blog helps to inspire me each and every day.

One product you regret buying?

Most products that I’ve bought I’ve loved so this is hard! If I was to choose one it would have to be the Rimmel duo contour and highlight stick, the reason for this is that it’s cream based but doesn’t blend well on my skin and also because it’s not cruelty free and was mostly an impulse buy to be part of a 3 for 2 deal. (Oops)

Does blogging ever interfere with your daily life?

Sometimes yes, but not in a negative way. For example, before I started blogging I’d come home from work and have a nap or watch Netflix but now I don’t do those things as much, as I now come home and either plan, take pictures for it and write blog posts! It’s more beneficial and creative so I think of it as a positive!

What inspired you to start blogging?

I’ve always had a love for makeup and beauty so initially that was the thing that inspired me the most! I also used to love reading other people’s blogs and thought why not?

Would you want to blog full time?

Yes and no, yes because I love blogging and sharing my experiences and opinions with you guys! But no because I love my job and would miss it if I stopped altogether.

What’s your favourite blogging moment?

My favourite blogging moment so far would be when I posted my first proper post ‘Books I’d recommend’ as I got such good feedback and I was so nervous because I really didn’t expect people to read or like it!

What would you do with your time if you didn’t blog?

If I didn’t blog I’d probably go back to my old routine of just napping and Netflix which seems very unproductive now.

If you could only read 3 books for the rest of your life what ones would you pick? And why?

That’s really hard, I can’t even narrow my favourite books into 3 books!😂 But if I had to then I’d choose Harry Potter and the philosophers stone, let it snow and looking for Alaska all for the same reason, they were my favourite to read and easy to read too!

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading this post and if you’ve got anymore questions feel free to ask them in the comments.

Review: L’Oreal pure clay masks

Hey guys,

This post is going to be another review (I know yawn! I need some new ideas). But this time I am reviewing L’Oréal’s pure clay masks! (They are not cruelty free- I’m using them up). I have three; purity mask, glow mask and detox mask. They each have different purposes as give different results.

The green one (purity mask) is supposed to get rid of any impurities in your skin, which can be caused by bacteria/pollution/etc… I have used this one twice or three times and it definitely opens up your pores! My skin always feels soft after, however it hasn’t helped my skin to get clear however that could be due to the fact I don’t use it regularly enough.

The pink/peach one (glow mask) is supposed to make your skin more ‘glowy’ and radiant, this one I have used the most as I feel it is the most exfoliating one. My skin does feel very smooth after using it but no glow.

The charcoal one (detox mask) is used to detox your face and get rid of blemishes. This one I’ve used about 5 times or so and have seen no difference to my blemishes but like the other two it leaves my skin feeling smooth and soft.

They each smell pleasant and are easy to apply to the face, on the box it says 10 uses but I definitely disagree I’d say depending on how much you apply each tub could probably last you 15 or more uses.

Do I recommend it?

Definitely no if you’re only after cruelty free products. But otherwise yes I do recommend these, at least the glow mask one, that one seems to give the best results!

I hope this post has been useful and has interested you! If you’ve used these products before and agree/disagree with me please comment to let me know your views!

Review: LUSH’s ‘Grease Lightning’ spot treatment gel

Hi guys,

This post is going to be a review on LUSH’s spot treatment gel that I purchased about a month ago.

My skin is very spot prone and it’s been near to impossible to find a spot treatment that actually does what it says on the label. Since I’ve gone cruelty free Body Shop and LUSH have been my first two favourite shops to get facial/body care products from.

I looked on LUSH’s website to see what stuff they do for spots and apart from a facial mask their ‘grease lightning’ spot treatment gel was the only other option so I thought why not.

“Strikes the spot with lightning precision. Dab on this super effective tea tree and witch Hazel gel to zap sits before they show themselves” – Description on bottle

I’ve been using the gel for just over a month and my review is a bit mixed. It has a nice scent to it and the consistency is alright (not too sticky and not too runny). However the results are confusing… on the bottle it says that it helps to prevent spots that are just about to ‘erupt’ but can also help spots that are there.

When I’ve used it before the spots come I don’t notice a difference however, when I use it on spots that have already appeared it does seem to help get rid of them a little bit. Although you have to be very careful where you apply this product! As when some of it went onto my skin (with no spot) a spot came up, I don’t know if that was completely coincidental or there was a correlation.

Everyone has different skin types, so even though it doesn’t work that well on me it could work really well on you! And at the cost of only £6.95 it won’t break your bank so why not give it a go?

If you’ve tried this and liked it or use a spot treatment that works really well, please leave a comment!

Product Review: Flower Jelly lipstick 💄

Hi guys,

This post is gong to be a review on the flower jelly lipstick that I got online. The brand is called ‘Chanlēevi’ and is supposed to be a lipstick that changes according to your body temperature.

I would overall rate this a 2/10, that may sound really harsh but I’ll tell you why.

Packaging of the actual product looks cheap, the lipstick itself is quite chunky yet there isn’t much product. When applied it makes NO difference at all, the texture is okay as it isn’t sticky and is quite ‘gel like’. The thing I like about this lipstick is that it smells like haribos and is moisturising for your lips. So it would be a good lip balm. I definitely feel like this is falsely advertised.

As you can see from the picture above there is little to no difference. My lips look glossy in the before picture as I had Vaseline on them already.

I’m not suggesting all Flower Jelly Lipsticks don’t give results but this particular one in this brand doesn’t.

I hope you’ve found this post useful, please leave a comment if you have ever used a flower jelly lipstick and your views!

🐰Why I went cruelty free🐰

Hi guys,

In this post I’m going to talk about why I went cruelty free, what I use that’s cruelty free and what brands are cruelty free.

I’ve only recently switched to cruelty free products (approx 1/2 months ago). The reason is that I LOVE animals, before when I used all types of makeup I tried not to think about the fact it’s tested on animals but still used it. I saw all the documentaries, articles and pictures about animal testing and yes it did make my stomach turn but I turned a blind eye to it.

My decision to go cruelty free came a lot later though, it wasn’t through watching videos it was just a snap decision that I made (and thank god I did). I think I was just going through my normal routine of putting on my makeup when I thought “why am I using this makeup when animals have been experimented on for it”. This is why I use cruelty free products. Why should animals be experimented on with products that humans use?! Animals are not there for our needs, they deserve to be treated with respect.

So since then I’ve been buying only cruelty free products for my makeup, skincare and hair care. Unfortunately I can not afford to replace all I have so what I did was use the old stuff up then replace it with cruelty free products.

So yes some of my makeup is not cruelty free but as soon as it’s used up then it will all be. My makeup that is not cruelty free is my:

  • Mascara
  • Contour
  • Powder

So it’s not too bad.

I use Urban Decay’s eyeshadow pallettes, I have for ages so I was very relieved to find out Urban Decay was a cruelty free brand.

This is my foundation and concealer that I use, both very good coverage and a nice consistency. Before I went cruelty free I used Rimmell London’s foundation, which was good but I prefer this one. The price difference was only £2/3.

In this picture it shows the eyebrow promade I use, eyeliner pen & pencils, glitter and glitter eyeliners (UD).

These are the highlights/illuminaters that I use. The Urban Decay one is more subtle but still shimmery.

These are all the lipstick/liquid lipsticks/lip liners that I use, I highly recommend all of them.

(I apologise for my picture quality as I’m using my phone and the lighting wasn’t too great)

In case any of you are interested in using cruelty free products here are some makeup brands that do NOT test on animals:

  • Anastasia Beverly Hills
  • BareMinerals
  • Kat Von D
  • NARS
  • Urban Decay
  • Too Faced
  • Smashbox cosmetics
  • Colour pop
  • Morphe
  • NYX
  • elf
  • Bh cosmetics
  • Pixi
  • Charlotte Tilbury
  • Eyeko
  • Tarte
  • Real Techniques

Here are some skin/body care that is cruelty free:

  • Lush
  • The Body Shop
  • Aesop
  • Kiss my face
  • Herbivore botanicals

Obviously there are loads more and you can find more out at Peta- easy ways to go Cruelty Free.

When I’m out and about I like to use an app called Bunny Free, which is basically a search engine for product brands.

Say if you’re out and want to know if a product tests on animal all you have to do is type it into this app and it’ll tell you whether it tests on animals or not.

I hope you have enjoyed or found this post useful, I’d just like to say that I in no way judge/think badly of those who don’t use cruelty free products. Every one is entitled to their own views and I respect those that use all products.

What cruelty free products do you like/use?

Harry Potter Studio Tour

Hi guys,

So as you all must know by now (by reading my previous 2 blogs) that I absolutely LOVE Harry Potter. I’ve been a fan of it ever since I was little. There isn’t one thing that a dislike about the film and book franchise (well apart from Cedric, Sirius, Dobby, Snape dying…but that’s the storyline 🤷🏼‍♀️).

But honestly J K Rowling did such an amazing job at creating such a magical place, it felt so real and I wish it was. All my child hood I always wished I’d get that acceptance letter so this is why going to the Harry Potter Studio Tour was so magical!

I actually went to Hogwarts (well the set) it was one of the best days of my life, thanks to my boyfriend Graham for bringing me (got to give him some credit ey).

So let’s begin my Harry Potter adventure….

This is the outside of the studios, there are 2, ones called ‘J Studios’ and the other is called ‘K studios’ (must’ve taken them ages to think of that name)

So the beginning of the tour leads you into a room which you and the rest of the tour group get introduced to the days tour by a member of staff. Then you get led into a cinema room where a clip about Harry Potter, actors/actresses, set and producers..etc which is actually really interesting (normally I find those sort of things boring but I guess Harry Potter is an exception). When it’s finished it’s time to …. open Hogwarts doors!

Pictures 4, 5 & 6 are of what you first see, The Great Hall!

All costumes in these pictures and any of the following are all real and worn by the actors in the movies which obviously adds coolness if it wasn’t cool enough already!

During the rest of the tour you basically just walked through the rest of the sets at our own pace. So I was basically like a child in a sweet shop. I absolutely LOVED it.

After this section we got to walk in the forbidden forest, which is almost as creepy as it is in the films.

The animations in this part of the tour is amazing though, you even get to see how they make a patronus!

After this it was time to visit Platform 9 3/4! This was one of my favourite parts of the tour as you could actually go onto the train and look into carriages from each movie.

(Picture of adult Ginny, Harry, Hermoine and Ron’s costumes)

Next up was a break where we got to try Butterbeer!

I personally didn’t like it, but still happy to say I’ve tasted it at the least.

The next part of the tour was outside where we got to see the night bus, Harry’s house, the bridge and hagrids car.

At this point I was still mind blown at the fact I’m seeing all of these things in real life, I couldn’t and still can’t wrap my head around it tbh!

The next part of the tour was inside, we saw how they made the masks of goblins, talking heads, giants, mermaids..etc, it was pretty cool.

The next part is probably the most instagrammed bit of the studio tour: Diagon Alley!

The final part of the tour (it’s okay, let out a sigh of relief I know you want too!) is the model(s) of Hogwarts which you’ve seen on the featured image.

Overall, Harry Potter Studios was AMAZING, it exceeded my expectations and it still doesn’t feel real. I would highly recommend to any of you who love Harry Potter and haven’t gone.

And of course I couldn’t resist buying some Harry Potter goodies.

I’m sorry this post has been so long, I didn’t plan for it to be this long but it happened.

I hope you enjoyed this post, please leave a comment if you’ve been or if you haven’t what your favourite part is.

And remember ….

“Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light” -Dumbledore. (Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban)

Which Harry Potter film/book is your favourite?

Love, Jess x
