BLOGMAS – DAY 13 – Winter Self Care Tips

Hey guys,

Welcome to day 13 of Blogmas! I am pretty shocked that I’ve made it this far tbh but here we are!

Today’s post is some winter self care tips! As I know Christmas is all about giving and loving others it is also important to take care of yourself!

Here are some tips, I hope you find them helpful:

Get plenty of fresh air – I know it’s tempting to stay snuggled up in bed watching Christmas movies and drinking hot drinks during this season but it is so important to get fresh air. To make it more festive you could go visit Christmas markets and Christmas lights, that way you’re getting fresh air in a festive way!

Pamper yourself – as it’s the holidays take this time to completely relax and de-stress! Face masks, manicures, bath bombs…you name it! Do something that makes you happy.

Organisation – this season gets super busy and hectic for the most of us, and if you’re like me you can’t survive without a diary/planner. Without mine I’d be lost as my memory is like a fish. Organisation doesn’t just work by note form it also could be in your bedroom, organising a shelf, cupboard or draw can really help to declutter your space. You don’t need to declutter all at once, do bit by bit and make it fun! (Well as fun as you can)

Sleep more – yes more! Sleep is SO important for your health and is a good way to recuperate after the stress of Christmas. Resist that urge to watch another episode on Netflix, I know it’s hard but it’ll still be there tomorrow! Your body will thank you for even one more hour of sleep!

Take a break from social media – I really do feel that we are all very dependent on social media nowadays (myself included, I can imagine Graham nodding his head right now as he calls me ‘hooked’). Don’t get me wrong social media is great! But too much….not so great. This links along with the pamper yourself point. We all need some ‘me’ time, without it we would crack up. You can be the most chattiest person alive and still need a break from socialising. And like the famous saying “too much of a good thing is bad”.

When I say take a break I don’t mean be drastic and not go on your phone for a week, because people will definitely worry! Just take a few minutes out of your day to put down your phone, read a book, have a bubble bath, meditate or go for a walk! It definitely works as I’m starting to try myself! I do this before I go to bed, I put my phone down, read some of my book then go to bed; and I’ve definitely been sleeping better since!

Spend time with those you love – it is so important to spend quality time with those who are close to you, that may be your girlfriend/boyfriend, best friend, friend or family member. Every moment is a memory so let’s make each moment count! Spending time with others doesn’t need to be expensive! It could be as simple as a movie day or a pamper day, I love having these sort of days as it’s nice to just chill out together and catch up.

Be positive – yes it is hard sometimes to maintain positive but even just one quote a morning can really help. Standing in front of your mirror and saying to yourself “you can do this” became you can! You can do anything that you put your mind to! Don’t let anyone tell you any different.

Embrace the season – don’t be a Scrooge! It’s Christmas! Eat that chocolate if you want too, buy that dress if you want too, it’s okay to treat yourself! (I tell myself that every time I buy myself a new palette from urban decay or boots..)

The ultimate self care tip is to love yourself!

These are all I have today. I hope they have helped you to think of ways to take care of yourself this festive season!

Thank you for reading today’s post, your ongoing support really does mean the world to me!

Hey guys, today is day 4 of blogmas and I’m already feeling the struggle!

Today’s post is a gift guide for her, as yes it can be hard to buy for us girls but if you know her interests then I hope this post can be of help to you!

If you missed yesterday’s post check it out here it’s a gift guide for him

These gifts could be for your friend, girlfriend, sister, Mum, cousin…etc and depending on your price range some of these gifts might just be perfect! (If I’ve done a good job)

Jewellery

Most girls love a bit of bling as it helps to make the outfit look just a little bit more glam

You can get some lovely costume jewellery from accessorise, Topshop or river island (my personal top 3)

Top left | bottom left|right

If she is into more elegant jewellery and you don’t mind spend that bit more then pandora is the place! Swarozki is also good as well as h samuels but again this depends on your price range and how much you’re willing to spend on this certain person.

Pandora

(Pandora has a Disney collection so if she’s a lover of Disney then I highly recommend something from the collection!)

Makeup

If she is a lover of makeup then why not treat her to a makeup gift set!

Boots and Superdrug both sell some really good ones!

Boots | Superdrug

Gift sets

Sometimes it’s hard to pin point what to buy someone so if you have a vague idea on what they like then a gift set is perfect!

You can get all sorts of gift sets! Some of these are:

• Perfume

• Nail sets

• Socks

• Bath sets

• Body shop gift sets

And many more!

Boots | Superdrug | The Body Shop

Box sets

If she loves a series and is non stop watching it then why not treat her to the box set! That way she can watch it whenever she wants!

Here are some popular box sets that you could get

Lush bath bombs

Everyone should know how amazing Lushs’ Christmas range is amazing so why not treat her with a pretty bath bomb! She’s sure to love it!

Lush

Lush bath sets are a perfect idea, they’re small and sweet! Most gift sets from Lush contain one or two bath bombs and a little gel, depending on the set.

Boots & Superdrug do some lovely bath sets as well

Candles

Around Christmas time it is lovely to have candles around to help it feel festive and cosy at this time of the year. Nothing says Christmas more than a room lit up by candles and smelling like eggnog or ginger.

Yankee candles have some really lovely candles, here are some examples:

Yankee candles

Personalised gifts

I don’t know about you but I always feel personalised gifts are just that extra bit special. There’s so many options from personalised frames to personalised notebooks! Amazon is a great place to get personalised gifts and keepsakes!

Fashion

And if none of the above ticks your boxes you can’t go wrong with a cute gloves, scarf and hat set! Perfect for this time of year too!

River Island | Accessorize

And if she’s a shopaholic or just loves to treat herself once in a while but is fussy then why not a voucher for her favourite shop!

These are all the ideas that I could come up with, I hope it was helpful to any of you who are struggling to buy presents for your friends and family.

Just a little reminder, don’t stress too much over presents, as Christmas is more about being with friends and family and making lifetime memories and that is the most important.

Thank you for reading today’s post and stay tuned for tomorrow’s post when I will be sharing my Christmas tree with you! Yay

Product review: ERA Natur – Bilka

Hey guys,

Today I am writing a review on two products I have got from ERA Natur, this is an amazing company which produce high quality cosmetic products that are all natural and contain herbal extracts and minerals.

We are passionate about using products for personal hygiene and cosmetics made with natural ingredients and with minimum chemistry. – ERA Natur

I ordered two products from ERA Natur which were the Bilka upgrape caffeine + body care – slim fit effect and the Bilka intimate hydrating gel wash.

Bilka upgrape body care caffeine+ slim fit effect cream

What does it do?

It is a body cream with a slimming and firming effect. It’s designed especially for stimulating the blood circulation and reducing fat. If used daily and in combination with the right activities and diet, a visible slimming effect can be noticed!

What does it have in it?

  • Caffeine – a proven stimulant which increases the blood circulation, helps for disposal of fat and water from the body.
  • Combined extract of horse chestnut, ivy & green tea– drains retained water, tightens and smooths the skin
  • Organic grape extract – an antioxidant, strengthens the collagen and elastin structure in the skin
  • Macadamia oil – deeply regenerates and hydrated the skin
  • Shea butter – rich in vitamins A, E & F
  • D-pantherol – increases skins moisture
  • Vitamin E – maintains skins elasticity
  • Menthol – gives immediate feeling of freshness and cooling

How do I use it?

Apply to wanted areas (e.g. stomach, thighs, arms..etc) with massage movements, use after a shower/bath twice a day.

My review

I’ve used this for the past week and I am definitely starting to see a slight difference! I’m using this on my stomach as that is the area I’m focusing on losing weight. Alongside this cream I am eating healthier (mostly) doing more exercise and drinking more green tea. I love the smell of menthol and can definitely feel the soothing feeling straight after. However if you dislike the smell of menthol I wouldn’t recommend this as the smell is quite strong.

My rating : 5/5

Bilka intimate hydrating gel wash

I mistakenly ordered this thinking it was a face wash, I was wrong. This is a cleansing wash for your intimate area.

What does it do?

It provides delicate cleansing in the intimate area without drying out the skin, gives a sense of freshness and comfort

What does it have in it?

  • Organic rose water – hydrates and freshens up, eliminates dryness and discomfort
  • Glycerine – restores skin elasticity
  • Bio ecological agent – neutralises harmful bacteria
  • Lactic acid – soothes and maintains the optimal PH in the intimate area

How do I use it?

Apply an appropriate dose, lather in your hands, wash and rinse with water

My review

I’m not going to go into great detail with this as that’s a bit personal. However after using this for a week I can definitely say it does make the intimate area feel fresher and more hydrated. It also smells really nice.

My rating: 5/5

If you would like to purchase any products from ERA Natur, you can do so here.

Thank you for reading today’s review! Check back later to see my blogmas Day 4 post!

The Mystery Blogger Award

The Mystery Blogger Award

Hey guys,

Earlier this month I was nominated for ‘The Mystery Blogger Award’ by the lovely CherishingFlo. If you haven’t already you should check out her blog. She posts about lifestyle tips and her personal life. I LOVE her blog, her posts are always fresh and inspiring and won’t fail to add a smile to your face! So thank you so much for nominating me!

You may be sitting there wondering what an earth this award is even about well….

The award was made by Okoto Enigma, check out her post on how and why she created it! (Original post).

What is the ‘Mystery Blogger Award’?

“Mystery Blogger Award is an award for amazing bloggers with ingenious posts. Their blog not only captivates; it inspires and motivates. They are one of the best out there, and they deserve every recognition they get. This award is also for bloggers who find fun and inspiration in blogging; and they do it with so much love and passion.” – Okoto Enigma

RULES (the only rules I like to follow….haha just kidding…)

  1. Put the award logo on your blog
  2. list the rules
  3. Thank whoever nominated you and provide a link to their blog
  4. Mention the creator of the award and provide a link as well.
  5. Tell your readers 3 things about yourself
  6. You have to nominate 10-20 people
  7. Notify your nominees by commenting on their blog
  8. Ask your nominees any 5 questions of your choice; with one funny question
  9. share a link to your best post(s)

So lets Rock ‘n’ Roll..

3 things about me

  1. I have a phobia of spiders and centi/milipedes. The way they look and move creep me out. I strongly dislike feet but wouldn’t class it as a phobia.
  2. I love astrology and have collected many crystals and gems over the years.
  3. My favourite colours are red and rose gold.

CherishingFlo’s questions for me:

  1. What made you start a blog?

I have always loved beauty products, especially makeup and I never knew how to express my love for it. After reading other peoples blogs on makeup and beauty, it suddenly clicked in my head that blogging is what I wanted to do.

  1. What inspires you to write your blogs?

The blogging community really inspires me, I had no clue how supportive bloggers are before I started my blog but I would 100% not be where I am today if it wasn’t for the amazing support I have received from fellow blogger who I now think of as friends.

  1. Would you ever want to blog full-time?

Yes I would love too! Not at the moment I wouldn’t as I love my job at the moment but it would definitely be something I would love to do in the future!

  1. How has blogging impacted your life?

It has made me more confident in myself, gives me a sense of purpose; rather than coming home lazing around watching Netflix I now feel motivated to write/plan blog posts (most days anyway). I have also met lots of AMAZING people from all around the world! I would never of met them if it wasn’t for starting a blog.

  1. What is your favourite past time?

I love going out with friends, seeing Graham, going shopping, reading books, going to concerts and watching movies/programmes. (Sorry couldn’t pick one)

My Nominations!

Kayla, simplyshaiz, judanna, kris marie, mary, PAE Reviews, caitlin, Sonam, becca , tizzhebahSophieRachel, Respirare , Angela, yiota, gianaFrancesca

Please check out their blogs as they are each wonderful and unique in their own way.

  1. What is your favourite part about blogging?
  2. Have you told your friends/family about your blog? if no, why not?
  3. What are your favourite things to write about?
  4. How do you motivate yourself to keep posting blogs?
  5. If you was to have ONE super power what would it be?

Please comment below your post URL’s once you’ve written them as I can’t wait to read your answers!

Thank you so much for reading!

Hope you have had a lovely Monday and see you next time!

My Skincare Routine

Hi guys,

I hope you’ve all had a good Monday and have a good rest of your week!

Today I’m doing a blog post on my current skincare routine, I say current as I’m pretty sure it’ll change within a month.

Skincare is subject to skin type so in order for you to know if these products may be of benefit to you it’s probably best I disclose my skin type… (drum roll please)… dry and sensitive mostly but in the summer it can get oily.

I would also like to apologise in advance for the quality of the photographs as the lighting was awful (ugh English weather) and I couldn’t lay the bottles flat as they wouldn’t stop rolling…

The order in which I do my skincare routine are as follows:

  1. Cleanse/wash
  2. Tone
  3. Spot cream/gel
  4. Serum
  5. Eye cream
  6. Moisturiser
  7. Oil
  8. Primer…..makeup as usual.

My morning and afternoon skincare routines are different.

In the morning I usually cleanse my face using The Body Shops’ Tea Tree Skin Clearing Foaming Cleanser.

Then before I leave for work I use Dr Botanicals ‘Tropical Invigorating Cream’ duo moisturiser.

However in the afternoon after my shower/bath I will do a longer skincare routine.

First I wash my face using The Body Shops’ Tea Tree Skin Clearing FacialWash.

Then I use a cotton pad to apply The Body Shops’ Tea Tree Skin Clearing Mattifying Toner on my face and neck.

After this I apply LUSHs ‘Grease Lightning’ spot treatment gel over any blemishes I have on my face.

Check out my review here.

Then use The Body Shops’ Vitamin C Skin Reviver Instant Smoother and spread this over my T-zones. (Also works as a great primer)

Then I use The Body Shops’ Vitamin E Eye Cream, I apply this on my eyelid and underneath them.

After the eye cream has dried I then apply the Dr Botanicals ‘Tropical Invigorating Cream’ duo moisturiser again.

When that’s soaked into my skin I then apply The Body Shops’ Tea Tree Oil onto my T-zones and gently pat it down using two fingers.

That’s my skin routine almost finished!

Once/twice a week (depending on how many days I wear makeup) I exfoliate my face using The Body Shop Tea Tree Squeaky Clean Scrub.

I also use face masks 3 days a week, I normally do 2 days of day masks and one sleeping mask.

I use L’Oreal Pure Clay masks as a day mask.

I use two different sleeping masks, alternatively to how my skin is.

If my skin is feeling dry I use The dr Botanicals Pomegranate Superfood Regenerating Sleeping Mask. Check out its review here

If I have a few blemishes/spots I use The Body Shops’ Tea Tree Anti-imperfection Night Mask.

That’s a wrap!

A full review of The Body Shops’ Tea Tree range will be posted soon!

Thank you all so much for reading! I hope it’s been useful and please leave a comment what your favourite part of your skincare routine is.

💅🏼How to grow your nails💅🏼

Hey guys,

Happy Thursday! Hope you’ve all had a good week so far and have a fun Friday tomorrow💃🏼

If you know me personally then you’ll know I had short, brittle and bitten nails (ew right?) for YEARS. It was a habit that I had since I was as a child and as I grew up it began to be caused more by stress and anxiety.

I HATED my nails, I used to be so embarrassed of them and hide them as much as I could. When I got to 15/16 I started to get my nails done. I got acrylic nails as that was a quick fix to my solution, so I thought… Yes acrylic nails do help your nails to grow underneath however, it weakens your nails and they’re very likely to break. This was a never ending cycle for me.

I would get acrylics, they’d fall off, I’d get excited about how long my nails had got, they’d break and then I’d bite them off. And repeat…. There was one point when I thought enough was enough and I was sick of wasting money on acrylics that just damaged my nails.

I then moved onto Shellac which at first was great, my nails were growing more, it looked nicer as it was actually my nail BUT the more I got it done the weaker my nails got. They had gotten really nice and long until the shellac started to peel off and off peeled my nail with it!

This caused me to start biting them again. At this point I had given up on the idea of growing them until me and some of my best friends decided we would motivate each other to grow our nails through making a group chat to share our process. This has really motivated me to grow them and worked!

This is what my nails looked like before….

And this is what they look like now..

They are far from perfect and are very plain at the moment but I’m super proud of myself.

(Sorry for the crap picture quality, these pictures were only initially intended for the group chat)

Here are the stages of the nail growth

How did I do it?

First thing I did was paint them with a nude coloured nail varnish to make them look a bit nicer.

Then I went to my local drugstore (boots) to look for nail varnishes to help nails grow and viola I found one!

It’s by Sally Hansen and is called Maximum Growth, it promises to give visible results in 1 week! It wasn’t lying! I saw a difference in TWO days. (2nd picture from the right).

The third picture in the collage is a week after using the nail polish. (It really does work)

Directions for use: apply 1 coat to bare nails every other day or as a base for a nail varnish.

It cost me £5.99 and worked better than I ever expected it too! I would highly recommend this if you’re trying to grow your nails.

Self care is important too

Obviously there are other factors that can affect the health of your nails, a big one is stress. This had a huge impact on my nails as in my old job I was under so much stress and pressure it was affecting my nails, hair and skin!

Within a week of leaving and becoming stress free I noticed a difference!

So if you have weak/short nails and work in a fast paced/stressful work place, I’m not saying you have to leave but relieving some of the stress will definitely help and not just for your nails. You can release stress by meditation, exercise, reading, being creative …etc. To find more ways of relieving stress check out this website https://www.webmd.com/balance/guide/blissing-out-10-relaxation-techniques-reduce-stress-spotHow to care for your nails

I’m no expert believe me but I’ll tell you what I do that helps my nails to stay strong.

When my nails are bare I use this buffing block which has four different textured sides; one that files, one that buffs, one that smoothes and one that makes it shine. I bought mine from boots but a lot of drugstores and supermarkets sell them!

After that I rub hand cream onto my hands and nails.

Before applying nail varnish I use the Sally Hanson nail varnish as a base then apply the nail polish.

I try and take nail varnish off after 4 or 5 days and give my nails 2-3 days to breathe in between. (If you constantly wear nail polish your nail gets deoxygenated and goes orange)

And that’s all! Let’s hope I keep this routine up and my nails stay long!

I hope this post has helped you in some way, please leave a comment on any tips you have on growing your nails!

Thank you for reading.

Love, Jess x
